A Bobbin of a Solution

I like to free motion quilt with poly threads but I don't like how the thread tends to unravel from the bobbin when it's not in my machine. I have a few of these little do-dads (not exactly a technical term but I couldn't seem to find the actual name for this product anywhere online) -

They work fine when you have a full bobbin, but are pretty useless once the thread is half used. It's been driving me nuts! Then I had a brilliant idea, or at least I thought I did until I discovered that my oh-so-original idea has been done before. Oh well, I'm still going to share it with you in case you don't know about it either. A cheap and easy way to keep your thread from unwinding, no matter how much thread you have on your bobbin - hair elastics!

Now my bobbins are neat and tidy and that makes me very happy.

  1. good solutionb do you match the colour of bobbin to the thread so you do not need to take the bobbin off

  2. Great solution and one I've never heard of - I also love the extra punch of color they'll give your bobbins. :) Thanks for the tip!

  6. I use these on my thread spools also, especially cones where it doesn't have a little slit or opening to place the loose thread in. If you have the large stretchy type, you can also place a matching bobbin on the top and stretch from top to bottom to hold the bobbin with the spool.
