Blog Overhaul
This past week I've been a part of some amazing discussions associated with the 2014 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop hosted by Beth from Plum and June. One of the questions that she asked us was what we liked about our favorite blogs and what do we look for/what is important in a blog. I guess I never really thought about it in terms of my own blog because all of the things that I liked or wanted in a blog weren't really a part of my own blog! I liked a more simplistic design with easy-to-read fonts, larger/uniform sized pictures, white backgrounds with only a few select colors.
Some things definitely needed to change so that was my focus this week. I also discovered a new blog, Sew at Home Mummy, that is hosting a 12-week Beautify Your Blog series. That couldn't have come at a better time. While I was already familiar with a lot of the things she's covered so far I did learn a few new tips/tricks. I never realized that you could backup your template. If I decided to go back to my old view I can do it with a just a click of the mouse. I also learned how to create a custom header.
I'm sure there will be a few more tweaks but for those who might be new or not recall what my blog looked before, here's a screenshot:
That's quite a difference if I do say so myself!

Hey Diana!
ReplyDeleteQuick suggestion.. is your header image include the word "banner"? You may want to consider renaming. I can't see it at on the PC I'm on because it filters any image with the word "banner" in as an ad block feature. I think that is pretty common for some browsers and adblock features. It's a bummer, I bet it looks awesome. :)
Hmmm... I wonder what's going on. I don't have the word banner in my blog header. I sent you an email with a screenshot of what the blog should look like. My guess is others are seeing what you are. Any chance of capturing a screenshot of what you're seeing and sending it to me?
DeleteYou do.. Here's the URL to the image that Firefox is trying to display:
Deletehttp://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rNPWY7MZows/U3VtukeasiI/AAAAAAAABTk/9JEoVB12Y4k/s1600/RDL-banner.png
It is in the title of the image and what is filtering it out. I'll show you what it looks like on my end.
GOT IT! Yes, the png file that I uploaded had the word banner so I renamed it and uploaded it. It should be visible now. Thanks for the heads up otherwise I would have had no idea.
DeleteI am loving our new discussion group! So many things to learn! I've made a few changes to my blog too, more to come, I'm sure. But I find that I'm spending way lots of time reading all the blogs I want to follow.
