Aspiring to Inspire

I've had this post in my draft folder for over a week now, unsure of how to properly word what I want to say.  When I started on this quilting and blogging journey, I didn't do it for anyone other than myself. I think that's how most of us start out. That is still the case for me, but what keeps me motivated and wanting to try new things are those that have truly inspired me with their creativity and passion. And whether or not it was their intent, Yvonne from Quilting Jetgirl and Jayne from Twiggy and Opal, have both done that for me, each in their own way.

Yvonne's post from last week is what got me really thinking about the path of my creative journey and it prompted me to start writing this post, but it was Jayne's post yesterday that gave me the push to publish it. Yvonne's almost scientific approach to quilting and her attention to detail results in some of the most spectacular creations. You can see that she puts her heart and soul into every stitch. And Jayne's way of just running with a spark of an idea and following her instincts is just amazing to me. Learning to let go and letting a project guide me without worrying about the end result is something that I'm not good at but want to explore more of, thanks to her. And while it might not have been part of their grand plan when they each started blogging, I just wanted to express my gratitude to them for helping me on my own quilting journey. Thanks, Yvonne and Jayne, you truly inspire me!

I've always loved teaching and mentoring others and I'd like to think that someday I might inspire someone else on their creative journey.  What about you? Is there someone that has really influenced and inspired you to keep creating and growing?

  1. Great post, Diana! (Also I love your signature!). My whole guild can be credited with that honor. I wouldn't be half of the quilter I am today without their encouragement, talent, and close friendship.

  2. Oh my goodness, Diana, this is not what I was expecting when I popped over here to read this blog post (I'm blushing). I honestly was really excited and thinking this might be a reflection on your experience teaching sewing / quilting at school last year with a teaser for what you might be up to this year (theater / music is what I recall). And the way your guild has so whole-heartedly thrown themselves into the Pulse quilt creation and effort is nothing short of inspiring, too. <3

I am inspired by so many. From new quilters who bravely try and conquer new techniques (fearlessness is so incredibly inspiring!), to those with mastery of skills I want to begin to learn myself... the range is huge and one of the big reasons I am so passionate about blogging and the online community.

  3. Hi, I just followed a link on Yvonne's blog - and I really like your post. I absolutely agree on so many points you made! Thanks for sharing and with all these discussions about blogging or Pinterest or Instagram .... going on, I think it is more than important to pay tribute to all the inspiring blogs out there.
    So thank you :-)

  4. Like Yvonne, now I'm blushing!! Your description of how Yvonne and I approach quilting is perfect! Thank you for writing such an eloquent post. It's wonderfully written and that right there inspires me!

I think most of us start blogging for ourself, I never would have thought anyone would read my posts. The icing on the cake has been meeting so many wonderful people like you. Every day I'm inspired in one way or another which keeps me 'pushing the envelope'!

I can't seem to find the perfect words, let me just say thank you so much...you have made my day!

  5. Popping over here from Yvonne's blog and I love the idea behind this post. I'm relatively new to both blogging and quilting, so I never really consider myself inspiring. I like to sit back in my chair and learn from my quilty friends, then jump headfirst into whatever idea they inspire. But like you said, maybe someday I'll inspire somebody and help them jump into an idea headfirst too. :)
