Cathedral Window Mini & June Goals

I am just crushing on this cute cathedral mini that I made last weekend.

I used the Missouri Star Quilt Company's easy cathedral window tutorial and it couldn't be easier. This mini was a test run before I cut into these fabrics that I purchased for a queen sized bed runner.

I wanted to see see how the pattern looked with 3.5" squares (instead of 5" that the tutorial uses). It also allowed me to make little adjustments. I now know that I need to use a walking foot for all of the piecing because of the bulk. I also plan on using a slightly bigger seam allowance to make pressing easier.

This brings me to my One Monthly Goal for June:
  • Get all that fabric cut into 3.5" squares.
  • Press all of the background fabric squares (bella snow, on the bottom) into little triangles
  • Figure out all the math and specific layout
I started looking at some of the math and it literally made my head hurt! Now that school is done for the summer, my sewing time is cut short so I'm keeping my goals realistic for the next few months.

Linking up to any of these parties.

  1. I think test blocks can be such lifesavers! I think this table runner is going to be great, and a little at a time will hopefully keep, the headaches at bay.

  2. Test blocks are a WONDERFUL idea. I really need to start doing that, instead of testing ON MY BED QUILTS, AS I GO ALONG...!!

  3. I literally just watched this video last night. Funny! I'm going to try one of these out this week. Yours came out great!

  4. Way to go, Diana! I still have never made a cathedral window quilt, but I drool over them all the time!

  5. a great mini, best of luck with the quilt I do like Cathedral windows but begrudge the amount of fabric it takes, must check out the Missouri video, I do get emails but they stopped coming until 2 weeks ago and now get notification of their latest videos always fun to watch and inspiring too

  6. I love that cathedral window test run. Looking forward to seeing the bed runner, whenever it's done. Have a great summer doing kid like things!

  7. A real beauty! And so smart to do! Good luck realizing your monthly goal. Can't wait to see your quilt upon completion! I'll have to check out that tutorial!

  8. Tests blocks are such a great thing, I can't wait to see the table runner.

  9. This looks great! Isn't this just the best video...I made one too, and it is so amazingly simple!

  10. This is gorgeous! I'm yet to try Cathedral Windows, so I'll be sure to check out that video! Thanks for participating in the 2016 FAL on behalf of the global hosts!

Thanks for taking the time to comment! I love hearing from my readers. I typically respond directly to your email unless it's an answer that I think everyone would be interested in hearing. If you are a no-reply blogger (and I know that blogger doesn't play nice with other blogging platforms!), I will reply directly on my website. Thanks for stopping by!
